Egg Dying today

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

We had a lot of fun today dying Easter eggs. Wasn’t really planned…we went to our Nature Kids class at The Discovery Center…this is a preschool science class we do every week for Tyren…and they were dying eggs and then did an egg hunt. (Also stories about eggs and animals that lay eggs.)

They had some cute egg dying kits…one that had glitter and another that you glued pieces of foil on the eggs. They only got to do 2 eggs each child, though…So of course I realized that it would be really fun to do egg dying at our friends’ house today…we go to the Hudson/Renzi house on Wednesdays to play for a few hours.

So I called Jen to make sure that she was ok with the idea…and she was, so we went in search of the glitter and foil egg dying kits. Didn’t find the foil one, but we did get the glitter one!

Our friends hard boiled 3 dozen eggs and we brought a few egg dying kits (the glitter one, and a tie dye and a regular dye kit and a marble kit that looked just like the tie dye but Tyr just had to have and we didn’t even end up using.) And the kids had a great time dying eggs!

Today we got to play with and dye eggs with: Thor, Thea, Clem, and Emma! Very fun! Then us moms hid the eggs and the kids got to hunt for them. Very VERY fun! :)   Jen even bought a bunch of confetti eggs so the kids loved finding them and immediately cracking them on each other’s heads, LOL!

Unfortunately I didn’t plan ahead and so I didn’t have a camera. But Jen and Lex took pics, so I’ll have to get them to send some to me so I can post them later.

It was a very fun time! And I got to socialize with my friends while the kids played! :)

I can’t seem to blog lately

My song-of-the-week posts have been sorely neglected lately, sorry. I don’t know if there’s anyone watching for them, though, so I don’t feel too bad. If you are waiting for them to be posted, please let me know and I will work harder at getting them out on time. I completely flaked on it last week and here it is the end of a second week that I’ve again skipped the darn song post. Argh. Gotta get on the ball!

On the plus side, I did indeed do a song with my kids last week. I just didn’t blog about it. In preparation for our annual trip to SCICON Outdoor School, for the salamander migration, I taught the kiddos “Sally-mander”, from my SCICON days.

I’ll blog the lyrics separately and see if I can’t drum up a video or recording of it. I have the song on cd from a SCICON cd I have. But its way cuter when my 3yr old sings it, of course, LOL! I’ll see what I can do.

Everything’s just sorta been going with the flow lately…not a lot of structured learning. Although I did manage to get some things done here and there. I’ve even been keeping careful (mostly) records in my new planner.

We’ve been doing a lot of social time lately. Which I think is a good thing. Maeven and Tyren have had a lot of outdoor play with friends, in this glorious spring-like weather we’ve been having (but I’m hoping that it doesn’t last, because I DON’T want an early spring and hence, early/LONG summer!) Today we spent HOURs at the park at homeschool park day. Maeven had a whole gang of girls she was playing with for awhile there…looked like about 10 of them that were all about the same size. Then later when the families started leaving, it was the 4 girls…Maeven, Brooke, Thea and Stephanie. How cool to see Maeven have such great friends! Really sweet to see!

Anyway, I have song posts to work on, don’t I? Back to work!

a great play day!!

i’ve gotten offtrack with school, and with blogging about what we’ve been doing…we’ve done a little here and there, but not at all where i want to be. for one reason or another.

anyway, today was a good one though! today we went to maeven’s new art class, which was “art in the park” with one of the homeschool moms. she liked it! its not super expensive, she gets a little art (and a little art history…they talked about paul klee today, and then did art like him) and she gets to be with other homeschoolers. the class is mostly boys right now, but maeven did enjoy it. i just have to remember to bring something to entertain tyren because there’s not a playground…its just grass and trees.

afterwards we went for lunch and then headed to the homeschool park day that happens every thursday, weather permitting. we haven’t been in a couple years, i think…its just not been something we really wanted to do because we always felt kinda like outsiders when we went…all the kids knew each other and there were so many and maeven in particular didn’t know how to break into the groups. but we tried again today and today she really enjoyed herself!! today she made a bunch of new (and remade old) friends and had a blast!

its still a lot of work for me because i can’t just sit and chat with the parents…i have to follow tyren around. and keep him away from maeven so she can have fun without brother intervention. but still i got some socializing with some friends i haven’t seen in awhile and it was fun all around! so we will be coming again! i think we’ll make it a weekly thing again. very cool!
